Documentary Interviews

Image
This task introduced us to a new technique in filming documentaries which are interviews. For the first few weeks, Adele and I decided it was the best to conduct mock interviews so we know how will the interview be on the actual days. This way we can be prepared and all of this is thanks from Mr Andrews and past students who gave us tips to always practise before doing the real thing. Therefore, throughout the project, we were ready for our interviews and were not stressed out. However, we came across some issues along the way. Here are some tips Mr Andrews gave to us about writing questions for the interviews. We need not be direct. So first, warm them up Adress their bio and such and include them in the questions If the person does not agree then lead them to where you want them to say In this post, I have separated the reflection into two sections; student and professionals. Student Interviews The student interviews were not difficult to conduct but we have faced ...

Documentary Animation: Video Scribe and Power Toon

Image
This term was a special term for animation. Our documentary required animation to produce some statistics. Therefore, we need to find animation software to satisfy our wants. There was two animation software I mentioned in my design which is VideoScribe and PowToon . In this post, I will reflect on my use of both software as I did try animate with both while I was editing the documentary. VideoScribe VideoScribe was an easy software to use since I have used it before for other school projects. Therefore, I knew how to get the animation such as moving the characters or write a text. Here are the things I have done so far with the program. (Photos will be posted) However, there were disadvantages that were associated with the program. It only allows me to use for seven days since it was a free trial. Furthermore, when I tried to export the animation, it has the trademark all over the animation since I need to buy a package to have the trademark off. This was sad b...

Week 9 and 10: Editing and The Final Edit

Week 9 This week was exam block meaning that we were busy preparing exams for other subjects. Mr Andrews assign us to hand another rough edit which was due on Monday. It is for him to look at them during the weekend and give us feedback for our editing. He also adds that we will have more things done in the new rough edit. For the rest of the week, I did not touch the film until Friday due to other exams. Friday Adele and I decided to meet up to go over our edits and share some footages for our documentary. So far it looked really good. However, there were some things that needed to be done such as Voice-overs: We decided to have an adult narrating because it gave more a voice of authority which we need. However, we will voice ourselves as a backup.  Sound level for dialogues will be at least 8.0 dbf  Colour correction matches  The use of stock footages which is only 20 seconds each person so in total of 40 minutes Check if we did not use the same points of inte...

Week 7 and 8: Filming

Image
Week 7 Monday During class time, Mr Andrews told the class about how to properly ask questions for an interview with professionals. Mr Andrews' tips on questions: Avoid using leading question, so leave an open question for example: Do you think... If the interviewee does not have the answer you're searching for then have a spare question saying "Research shows that..." Avoid the black and white question Tuesday Adele sends to emails to the professors in Griffith and one of them has replied. We were surprised but happy that we had an expert in the fields. Further developments: Another interview might be set by Gabby's mother, next Monday afternoon and so we send an email to her if she's available. The Councillor emailed back and she's happy to do this Friday lunchtime and she wants the questions so we will send it to her after when Mr Andrews checks them. Plan: Film on Wednesday after school on shots needed for the film (photos from...
