Week 3: Photography and Brainstorm

First lesson: 6/02/17

On the first lesson of this week, we looked at the different types of editing used in films. We looked at graphic editing, rhythmic editing, spatial editing, temporal editing and how they work. Afterwards, we watched a montage clip from the film Memoirs of a Geisha to see various types of editing used in one montage. The clip used lots off graphics match, for example, the powder blush, temporal editing; the montage and rhythmic editing in which follows the music in the background.  Finally, we looked at past student's work for the first task which is creating a teaser trailer to have an idea for the concept.
    Second lesson: 8/02/17

On the second lesson, we looked at the principle of photography. We learned about terminologies such as shutter speed, aperture and ISO. We learned that the shutter speed is the sound we hear when we press the shutter release button to take a photo. It is the amount of time the shutter is open. We learn that if we have a fast shutter speed, the moving object "freeze" while the slow shutter speed creates a blur effect. Aperture controls the amount of light comes into the lens and creates depth of field. To create a large depth of field, the aperture is smaller (large f number) meaning that the background behind the focus object is blurred a bit. While a small aperture (smaller f number) completely focus on the subject and blur completely the background. Also, ISO is the control of noise in the photo or video.

Afterwards, we then able to start looking for a concept for our teaser trailer. In order for that, we need to look at genre tv tropes and character tropes for our idea. The genre I decided that I would like to do is mystery and crime because it is one of my favourite genres in film/tv and literature.

      Third Lesson: 9/02/17

On the third lesson, we were able to try out the school camera for an activity. We were to take pictures while applying the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Before we were able to start, Mr Andrews run through the buttons and features of the camera body. He also runs through how do we install the lens on the camera body. Afterwards, we then went outside to take pictures with the camera. I mostly trying out the aperture of the image and creating a depth of field. While taking photos, I learned that the larger the background is, the harder it is to completely blur it out. Therefore, we need to zoom in the object to make the width of the background smaller, therefore easier to blur completely.

        Fourth Lesson: 10/02/17
In this lesson, we started to brainstorm for our teaser trailer. I had already worked out a general concept for my trailer. It is about a girl whose parents were killed in a house fire one afternoon. The girl believes it is a murder as she saw something was not right but the authority tells it was an accident only. Deciding to solve herself, she will find the killer who did this.

I explained this concept to Mr Andrews and he said it could work out and I need to differentiate who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. Also, what is the killer's motives for this.

In the weekend of this week, I continue planning my concept by first, plan out how the whole show will turn out then pull some pieces to make the trailer.
