Week 2: Cinamatography and Editing
On the first lesson of this week, we run through cinematography, more specifically framing. We look at types of shots and angle, rule of third and the golden triangle and how they make a shot. We then did an exercise where we have to take four pictures where a character is powerful, weak then equal. After we have finished, we had to show our image in next lesson for the class to analyse the images.
On the following lesson, we showed our four images to the class and they analyse each image to see if the shots portray the equal and different powers of each images.
The feedback we have been received were:
For the equal images:
Powerless:
The lesson afterwards, we reshoot our images while applying the feedback we received from the class.
Then we went through again for cinematography and looking at some film clips such as Silence of the Lamb to show how the cinematographer uses the angle to show power between two characters. The next rule we have learned was the quadrants rule which one-half can represent a story while another can represent another story.
Then for the rest of the lesson, we complete an activity.
In the last lesson of the week, we revisit cinematography and then looking at editing and complete a worksheet relating to editing.
Afterwards, we watch an analysis video about the visuals in Micheal Bay films. We also start to look at the task we have to do this term which is a teaser trailer for a tv show. The task is to introduce a character without revealing its identity until the end. Therefore, during the weekend, we need to start thinking ideas for the task.
On the following lesson, we showed our four images to the class and they analyse each image to see if the shots portray the equal and different powers of each images.
The feedback we have been received were:
For the equal images:
- The people in the picture are closely equal
- The background lighting is different from each image
- Have the camera in the same position so the background is the same position
Powerless:
- The rule of Golden Triangle was used
- Lighting could be better such as underexpose the picture
- Lines used effectively well as it lead to the person in the image
- Tight frame the frame a bit more so she occupies more space
- The leaves are distracting
