Week 8: Filming and Editing
5/06
During class:
- During this lesson I edit the footages that I have so far. Also I found this really good special effect website from a tutorial so I will try to teach myself how to use special effect since it is the first time using special effects. I hope it will turn out fine.
Lunch:
- At lunch, the filming went well because everyone is focus so it went smoothly
- There were no difficulty of technology or time so the filming went well as planned
- So far, it is going well so far since I have few shots left
After school:
- During editing, while looking back at the shots filmed on that day, I did not like one of the shot where they push off each other since I could see they were smiling and it was not as I have imagined so I decide to cut it off from the trailer since it could not work out
- Also, the voice-over for one of the dialogue was done and I liked it since it was perfect
6/06
During class:
During class:
- I showed my rough edit again to some people in my class and one of them said that the trailer feels it is linear and I also felt the same thing when I watched again and thought over. Therefore, I of course not re film the entire trailer but I'll change the order of the shots in the timeline, so I have to change the script to match the flow of the trailer.
- I also continue editing and I thought I will do special effect on Final Cut Pro during class and then after effect on the weekend.
After school:
- I have changed the script and so here is the original and the new version of the script
Original script:
New script:
- Unfortunately, I meant to film this afternoon but the actress was unable to attend so I've change the filming to next day after school
- Unfortunately again, in the evening, that same person also told me that she wont able to make it Wednesday afternoon since she had a performance in which originally meant to start at 5pm but move to 4pm so we had to cancel. Also, she won't make to Friday lunch.
- So, to resolve this conflict schedule problem, I push the second headache scene to Thursday morning before school, the classroom scene will be change to the character sitting reading a novel and will be filmed on Sunday. Then the Friday shoot would be move to Thursday lunch also. Hopefully, it would go well and I saw that Thursday would be my busiest day.
- Furthermore, after rearranging my trailer for not making linear, I decide to shoot another scene of two mages fighting each other so I'll do that on Thursday after school.
- So after all of this, I rewrite the schedule for this week, here it is:
- I just hope that the rest of the week would go well but I am confident that I would be fine to finish the edit in time for the due date.
7/06
Lunch
Lunch
- I manage to film the shots that I required on that day
- The filming went well because it went according to plan and the people were organised
- The thing I want to change if I redo the project is in one of the shots where The Black Witch is introduced, I want to place the other person beside her so she can be viewed. Also I would change the Witch holding one hand instead to make it more dramatic. However, due to little time, I'll just leave as that but next time I'll need to plan the shots more clearly.
- Although, the filming went well and there is no problem in editing so far
8/06
Before School:
- On that morning, I filmed the second headache scene
- The filming went well as there were no technical difficulties or problems occurring during filming and the actress was focused
Lunch:
- This lunchtime, I film the shot with Morgan and her friend first
- However, the original actress that I originally wanted was unable to attend in the last minute so on the last minute, I grabbed a random person and film with her
- The shot looks great even with the difficulties at the beginning
- Also, the shot of with the friend was made up on the spot because it was just added in the trailer so it was not in the original shot list
- The next shot was the one with Morgan saving someone and the filming went fine as there was no difficulties
- Unfortunately, on the day, I was rushing to film because the main actress has a test to set up so I had to film quickly as possible and because of that I forgot to reshoot the beginning shots that I needed to do
- So, I decided to keep the original shots in the trailer as they look ok
During Class:
- Continue editing the footages that I have so far and the editing goes well
- I also look out for stock footages for special effects and found a good website for me
- The website is called Production Crate: http://productioncrate.com/
Afterschool:
- I was meant to film on that afternoon but I had to reschedule to Friday lunch because of an unexpected change in the times of a Volleyball trial that I had to go
9/06
During Class:
During class, I have shown to Mr Andrews what I have so far and here is his feedback:
- Play with lights and colour correction to get a specific mood
- He got the concept overall
Lunch:
During lunch, I film the additional scene for the two mages fighting and reshoot one of the shot of the girl. Unfortunately, it was cloudy on that day so the background of one of the girls are different. The original shots was filmed on a sunny day. However, I kept going and the filming went smoothly.
Editing:
In editing, I was looking over the scenes that I have so far and I realise that one of the shots where Morgan saves the girl, was not focus properly. So I decided to delete the second vision scene because I didn't like it and it will make the trailer go over the time limit.
Weekend
11/06
11/06
Filming:
On that day, it was raining and wet so I had to change the actions in some scenes. For instance, I originally had a scene where Morgan and her chaser jumps from a wall but because of safety, I change the action of them jumping from a bench. Also, another scene that was changed was Morgan tripping onto the floor but the floor was wet and dirty. So I had the character just being cornered into a dead end. Overall, even with the bad weather and windy day, the filming went well because the actors were focused so the filming went smoothly.
Editing:
There were some changes made in my trailer from the original plan as I edited. Here are the changes:
- Originally going to film an actual page to do the prophecy but did not work out as it was not what I have originally planned so I decide to find a background with vintage looking page and have the text handwriting effect appearing
- Originally, the colour scheme was going to be green and blue but decide to change to be only light blue but saturated to look like a washed out reality since I played around with colour correcting. This created a grim reality in the world through the main character's perspective
- Finally worked out the flashback effect which is finding a glitch transition
- Was going to use After Effects but decided at the end of the day that I realise the things that I wanted to do does not require after effects
