Week 5: Production

First lesson: 20/02/17

On this lesson, we got our draft back for the character outline and storyboard. The feedback I mostly received concerned the character outline. Mr Andrews told me that some sentences are awkward meaning I had to change the expression on some sentences. Also, he mentioned that one of the sentences says that it looks like she died. Instead, he suggested she may be in dangerous situations. Also, he said to change the structure of outline and some sentence structure. Afterward, I have created a prop list for the trailer.

Prop list

Afterward, I planned out the schedule for this week. Since I would be busy with musicals, I tried to find days I could film.

Here is the schedule for that week.

After school, I start filming the trailer. I have done the first two shots with some of the newspaper shots done. What went well was that I managed to start filming the trailer. Although, while filming, I realised that when I filmed the first few shots with a macro zoom lens as the words became blurry as I came closer. It is when I have decided to get a macro fixed lens instead.
    Second Lesson: 22/02/17

During the lesson, I continued to prepare the props for the trailer such as the rest of the newspapers. I then start editing the few shots that I had so far. While editing, I saw that for the second shot, I needed to create shadows on her and there were none in the shot I filmed. Although, I did not know how to create a shadow this way so I decided to ask Mr Andrews. Therefore, I decided to ask Mr Andrews how to create shadows and he told me to use white and black fabric to reflect lights and create a hard shadow.

I decided to not film on this day as I was busy with musicals and I wanted a day off of filming to catch up with other subjects. However, I was still happy of the progress I made so far as I was content that I started filming.
      Third Lesson: 23/02/17

In this lesson, I edited the rest of the newspaper scene and I realised it didn't flow well as the panning did not look like I imagined. Therefore, I've decided instead of panning, I will make the shot still. After school,  I filmed the letter scene which "The Fool" send the letter to Claire. At first, I went with the shot list first but then I decided to change. I originally was going for one shot of the letter but it did not go well. Instead, I've decided to separate into different shots for the letter scene. Therefore, I will update the shot list for the beginning and the letter scene later on.
        Fouth Lesson: 24/02/17

In this lesson, I decided to continue preparing the props for the later scenes such as the M.A.22 scene. In the afternoon, since I was free, I decided to film at school the aunt scene in which she is at the park waiting for someone. The filming went well and I had no problems with it. I am satisfied with the shots that I have.
          Weekend:

During the weekend, I filmed the rest of the newspaper scene and the rest of the shots needed. It was successful as it went as what I have imagined. However, there was one scene that needed to be fixed. Originally, I had a shot where the aunt is in the shadow talking to a phone but it did not work well. It was hard to create a hard shadow with a softbox, therefore I've decided to cut this shot from the trailer. I was then decided to add a scene where the aunt was yelling at Claire in a low shot. The only scene I have not yet filmed are the aunt scene, the aunt on the wall and the case M.A.22 scene. After filming, I edited what I had so far. I realised at the beginning of the trailer when the newspapers were pan, it did not flow well with the trailer. I've changed my mind to make it all still and show only few words. I will update the shot list of the beginning. I did not have the voice over yet.

(Updated shot list will be inserted later on)
